WATCH: Fight erupts mid-court between New Mexico players, Utah Valley fans

With time expiring on a 66-61 loss to Utah Valley, New Mexico State's K.C. Ross-Miller lost control of his emotions and threw a basketball at an opposing player. This started a fight between the players, while the Utah Valley fans stormed the court to celebrate their team's victory.

What ensued was a melee, a large-scale brawl involving players, coaches, and Utah Valley fans. It left an ugly black-eye on what had been a terrific game and a much-needed victory for a Utah Valley team hoping to make the NCAA Tournament.

The skirmish between New Mexico State players and Utah Valley fans likely will intensify the push to ban court storming in college basketball because of the safety hazard. Critics of court storming have long cited injuries suffered by fans who have been trampled and the potential for altercations between frustrated visiting players and unruly spectators
